Manu Pinot Noir
There is a lot of oak in this wine BUT it is beautifully balanced by the earthy, almost bacon like, fruit concentration. It has aromas of smoke and peat and a very pleasant sweetness in the palate. The finish is rounded and persistent. Enjoyed by judges and consumers alike. More

Peter Yealands Pinot Gris
This is Yealands entry level label and whilst this is not an overly complicated wine it is extremely well made and thus delicious. There are lifted floral aromas and lovely fruit weight in the palate with fresh, vibrant acidity and, for once in Pinot Gris, restrained alcohol. More

Cathedral Cove Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This wine had the disadvantage of being the first wine that we tasted and yet it still scored very impressively. It has powerful tropical aromas with peach, gooseberry and capsicum flavours that are entwined with a crisp acidity and excellent mouthfeel. Just sensational value and available in many supermarkets. Hihi Semillon
We do not usually award 'Top Tips' to four star wines but there is not much semillon about and this is a very fine example and deserves to be applauded. There is delicious lemony freshness here with an oily texture and super concentration and length. Try it - so will not be disappointed. More

Yealands Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Stone fruit, minerals and herbs on the nose and blackcurrants, nettles and citrus in the palate. The result is a big wine with strong acidity, weight and length. This sauvignon is going to last and improve. Put some in the cellar. More

12,000 Miles Pinot Noir
Given its price, this was perhaps surprisingly THE Pinot of the tasting. Its distinctive feature was its silky quality which combines beautifully with its ripe fruit and plummy savoury flavours. It is pure, ripe and has a wonderful finish. More

Waimea Barrel Selection Pinot Noir
The top rated Pinot in this tasting with one judge giving it her highest ever rating! The wine has wonderful dense and peppery aromas. The flavours are intensely ripe and juicy with good complexity and excellent fuit/oak integration. The finish just goes on and on. And all for $23.90 - hurry! More

Invivo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This is the second vintage of Invivo's sauvignon and by a majority verdict it was voted the best sauvignon in the tasting. Intense tropical aromas with herbal undertones succumb to passionfruit and grapefruit flavours and are heightened by the zingy acidity giving the wine weight and length to perfectly compliment it dry, crisp style. Get some. More

Hawkshead Pinot Gris
Wow - a huge wine. Green apple and quince aromas do not really prepare you for the concentrated green apple almost confectionary flavours that follow. The acidity is firm and zingy and this is definitely a wine of great potential. Put some in the cellar. More

Morton Estate Reserve Sec Methode Traditionnelle
When we say that this wine has an easy drinking style it is meant as a compliment - it is a super fizz ideal for parties. It has very balanced fruit and yeast aromas with very ripe and soft fruit flavours leading to a long and persistent finish. Very enjoyable. More
