Delegat's Wine Estate Ltd
The Managing Director is Jim Delegat and his sister, Rosemari Delegat, is Executive Director. Their parents, Nikola and Vidosava, founded the family wine business in New Zealand in 1947 after both emigrated from what is modern day Croatia in the late 1930s. The original vineyard and winery was established in 1947 at Henderson, west of Auckland city. The grapes have long disappeared but the site remains home to today's modern winery.
Hawke's Bay Varietal Wines

These wines express the regional character and harmony of Hawkes Bay viticulture. They are strongly varietal, elegant, crisp and refreshing. They are wines to enjoy within a year or two of vintage and all of them offer excellent continuity of supply.
Reserve Wines

Our Reserve wines feature the grape varieties for which the Hawkes Bay wine region is famous. Beautifully ripe fruit, from our own vineyards, has been given special care and attention at every stage of winemaking. The wines express the unique varietal character and flavour of Hawkes Bay. Barrique matured, they are subtle and very approachable on release and crafted for immediate drinking. They also have the structure and balance to reward cellaring.
The Vineyards

In the 1970s and 80s, being innovators in viticulture and sensing the transformation that was about to take place in the quality and awareness of New Zealand wine, the family purchased premium grape growing land in the favoured Hawkes Bay region and started planting classical varietal vines. Over the years the family-owned vineyards, and the other vineyards in Hawkes Bay from which Delegat draws grapes, have grown steadily in size and number. The sunny Hawkes Bay vineyards enjoy a superb mix of microclimates and varying soils...silt, shingle and clay...fertile deposits over gravelly sub soils...all deposited by the rivers and streams which drain freely from the rugged inland ranges in the west. Our winemakers are able to blend ripe fruit from different locations to achieve wines of true regional harmony and character.
