Swiss/New Zealand citizen Renat Nussbaumer has developed one of the most scenic vineyards in the Nelson area, featuring 8 hectares of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Merlot. Sea breezes guarantee cool nights during the growing season which is shouldered by mild spring and autumn temperatures. The property is an ideal vineyard site, a warm north facing slope not only unique for its scenery, but equally for its micro climate and its clay-based soils, resulting in highly aromatic wines. Most vineyard work is done manually and the vines are treated with the utmost care. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripening levels and cropping levels are very low with just 5 to 7 tons per hectare. The wines duly reflect the unique terroir and the abundant sunshine (2500 hours per year) of the area. The white wines are whole-bunch pressed and undergo natural fermentation as the maturation is done on a minimal intervention basis. The reds are carefully destemmed and reach the fermentation tank without crushing the berries. Renato wines have won numerous competition awards (gold and silver medals) and high ratings by wine reviewers Wines sold at: NZ-wide stores: Glengarry Nelson: Casa del Vino, Hardy St Wellington: Rumbles, 32 Waring Taylor St Wellington: Wine Seekers, 86-96 Victoria St Auckland: The Wine Vault, 453 Richmond Rd, Grey Lynn Auckland: Point Wines, 141 Queen St, Northcote Taupo: Scenic Cellars |
