Alexander Vineyard is located on the free-draining gravels of the old river terraces created by the Ruamahanga River in the internationally renowned "wine village" of Martinborough, located in the south-eastern corner of New Zealand's North Island.Established in 1989, Alexander Vineyard specialises in the production of fine handcrafted red wines using traditional winemaking practices to maximise the influence of the unique combination of site, soils and season, or the "terroir", of Martinborough, New Zealand's finest winemaking region. In the winery, the emphasis is on minimal intervention to allow full expression of the fruit flavours from the grapes handpicked at optimum flavour ripeness, with wines released after bottle aging following 12 months or more maturation in French oak barrels. Our handcrafted wines have received critical acclaim from many of New Zealand's leading wine writers including many 4 star and higher ratings including a 5 star award for "Best Buy - Best New Zealand Red" in Cuisine. Our production is now gearing towards almost exclusively Pinot Noir with some Merlot to be available direct from the winery. |
