Coopers Creek Vineyard Ltd
COOPERS CREEK WINERY was established by Andrew and Cynthia Hendry in 1980 with the aim of producing the very highest quality wines, principally in dry styles and reflecting New Zealand-s outstanding cool climate viticultural conditions.
The Coopers Creek label first appeared in 1982 with the release of several wines onto the local market. During the following years, Coopers Creek continued to develop its vineyards, extend and develop its range advancing its reputation as one of the best performing small/medium sized New Zealand wineries.
Simon Nunns, winemaker, was appointed in 1998. He completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University, graduating with distinction and receiving the innaugural presentation of the 'Jason Winter Memorial Award'. He satisfies his passion with overseas vintage experiences with trips to Oregon and Bordeaux to date.
PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION has steadily increased at Coopers Creek to around 70,000 cases per annum, 60% of which is exported. Coopers Creek's contribution to New Zealand-s export trade was recognised by the awarding of the "Excellence in Exporting Award" at the 1997 export awards. Coopers Creek is currently selling wine to about twenty countries worldwide.
THE COOPERS CREEK RANGE of wines includes Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Riesling from Marlborough. Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from Hawkes Bay, Chardonnay from Gisborne and Merlot from Auckland. In exceptional years reserve wines are produced. New varieties will include Pinot Gris, Syrah and Viognier.
COOPERS CREEK VINEYARDS are situated in the principal grape growing regions in New Zealand. Some are company owned and managed (Auckland, and Hawkes Bay; 33 hectares) and others (Marlborough and Gisborne) are covered by long term supply contracts. Coopers Creek's policy is to grow the grap varieties where they grow best.
