Tim Coney describes the inspiration for his career change as 'a desire to see the beginning and the end of the production line'. He moved from the heady world of foreign exchange to a four-hectare vineyard that he services with a 1942 tractor.Two-thirds of the vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir, with the balance in Riesling. After initially selling his grapes to several wineries Tim had his first wine made under contract in 1999. A love of music was the inspiration for the branding. Coney's wines include Rallentando Dry Riesling (Rallentando is the instruction to slow the orchestra down), Ragtime Off-Dry Riesling, and Pizzicato Pinot Noir (Pizzicato is the act of plucking a stringed instrument such as a violin). Tim plans to construct a winery and cellar door outlet by February 2003. The outlet will also include a 40-seat café. |
