Whitestone Vineyard
Max and Velda Smith turned eight hectares of limestone shingle flats on their sheep farm by the Weka Stream over to grapes in 1998. They are so pleased with the results that a further five hectares are being planted.
The first vintage in 2002 produced 458 cases of Pinot Gris and 216 of Pinot Noir. They intend to plant more Pinot Blanc and Merlot vines.
