Waipara Springs Wines |
The original planting of 4 ha of Chardonnay vines in 1982 has been expanded, and there are now 20 hectares (50 acres) of grapes in production in the Waipara Springs Vineyards. The varieties grown now include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, with young Merlot vines producing small quantities. The vineyards are managed by Bruce Moore, who is a pioneer of viticulture in the Waipara region. The soil type at Waipara Springs is ideally suited to quality grape production, having very high levels of limestone, which results in high soil pH.
Waipara Springs is dedicated to quality, and because all the grapes are grown on the property, there is strict quality control from the vine to the bottle. New French oak barriques are purchased each year, and the winery upgrades its equipment regularly along with additional equipment to cater for increased production from the younger vineyards. This policy has provided rewards with Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in both national and international wine competitions. |
