Waimarie Wines is located in Waimauku, an area 15 minutes North west of Kumeu, in one of Auckland's premium grape growing districts.Finding the right location wasn't easy. But after extensive research and site analysis, The Nobilo brothers discovered a pocket of land in the Muriwai valley, set on the northern foothills of the Waitakere ranges. Here growing conditions are exceptional. The vineyard is a north facing heat trap set to one side of a sheltered valley. This unique geography has created a special meso- climate which produces long, hot dry autumns with low rain fall resulting in an extended ripening period ideal for retaining the vibrant varietial flavours of the fruit which are sort .The soil is a composition of redhill sandy clay loam over orange - brown compact clay loam . The vine are grafted on to low vigor rootstocks and cane pruned to the traditional European method of double guyot to ensure low yields of premium fruit with concentrated flavours. The Cepage of the vineyard consists primarily of classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Savignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Tannat also Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. |
