Bilancia
Bilancia (be-larn-cha) is Italian for balance, equilibrium and harmony and this is the philosophy of the winemaking. (Bilancia is also Italian for the star sign of Libra which Warren and Lorraine both come under).
Warren and Lorraine have many years experience between them, in New Zealand and in numerous winemaking areas around the world - Australia, California, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, France. The first harvest for Bilancia was 1997 when Warren and Lorraine returned from overseas and moved to Hawkes Bay to live and establish family and vineyard. All the wines to this date have been made from contract fruit grown in premium sites around Hawkes Bay with the exception of Syrah (first vintage 2000) which is from their own Hillside vineyard, planted 1998.
In 2000, 2001, and 2002 Pinot Grigio fruit was purchased from Marlborough.Future emphasis will be on the wines, Syrah and Viognier, produced from the hillside vineyard, la Collina, terraces cut into the north facing slope of Roys Hill on the west of Hastings.
Warren is employed as the Winemaker for Trinity Hill and this is where the wines are made.
