Sanderson Wines
Sanderson Wines is a small, privately owned winery set up in 1999 to produce a small range of premium wines from HawkeÆs Bay grapes. It is set in an established vineyard near Hastings, and is a production site only; no tastings or sales are conducted at the winery.

The winemaking philosophy is to concentrate on making the best wines possible, in styles and from grapes which reflect the quality and diversity of grape growing and winemaking in our region. In order to achieve this several growers have been approached to supply grapes of unusual varieties, often from small experimental plots. The first release, in November 1999, will show the range of ideas encompassed.

Supporting these are several more familiar wines, including Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, which will show that the winemaking has depth as well as breadth.

The leasing of vineyards for the 2000 vintage onwards will give a greater degree of control of fruit quality and will lead to even better wines. From the 1999 vintage less than 5,000 bottles were made; this number will grow with time.
