QUARTZ REEF blends the proven winemaking talents of Clotilde Chauvet, whose family own the small, distinguished Champagne house of Marc Chauvet in France, and Austrian-born Rudi Bauer, whose pinot noirs have won a host of gold medals and trophies in New Zealand and Australia.Rudi arrived in New Zealand in 1985, after gaining degrees in Austria and Germany, in both viticulture and winemaking. Clotilde Chauvet took over from Rudi at Rippon and by 1996 they had formed Quartz Reef along with Dunedin businessman Trevor Scott, and John and Heather Perriam of Bendigo Station. THE QUARTZ REEF LOGO - the "c" stands for Chauvet and the "b" stands for Bauer. This represents the heart of the company and reflects the passion and commitment to the products. The blue wave represents Lake Dunstan, Central Otago, as the origin of the product. Rudi Bauer describes his label as reflecting the old and the new - the history in the region and in the 400 years of winemaking by the Chauvet family, whose confidence that the region could produce excellent sparkling wine was the foundation for the venture. The South Pacific style of design also reflects the New World, an integral part of the feeling behind Quartz Reef. |
