Jill & Chris Harrison bring to Beach House a life long passion and broad experience in New Zealand and French wine making. Having been exposed to a variety of wine making philosophies and producing wine from a variety of grapes and vintages. They see Hawkes Bay as the sleeping giant of the New Zealand wine scene and are passionate about working together to create wines that reflect the fantastic characters of the Hawkes Bay.The 1997 to 2000 vintages have been sourced predominantly from our friends, Bruce and Diana Ellingham, "Woodstock vineyard", on the river gravels in the Ohiti Valley. Taking only the best fruit from their 30 acre Vineyard, to achieve excellent results. The 2001 Chardonnay, Reisling and Gewurtzraminer white grapes will come for the first time from the Levels vineyard in Te Awanga. The Gimblett Gravels vineyard in Mere Road is now planted and growing apace. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec for Bordeaux style wines and a trial planting Montepulciano done of the Tuscan Sangiovese are the red grapes which are establishing well on the stony terroir of the appellation. |
