Ata Rangi Ltd
Ata Rangi Pinot Noir ranks among New Zealand's most illustrious reds, with an international reputation for its outstanding complexity and richness.
Michael Cooper, Sunday Star Times 13 Jul 2003

ATA RANGI "new beginning" or "dawn sky" was a barren 5-hectare paddock when Clive Paton bought it in 1980. He was one of a handful of winemaking pioneers in Martinborough who were attracted to the area by three key features - the localised, free-draining shingle terrace some 20 metres deep, the lowest rainfall records of anywhere in the North Island, and the proximity to the capital city of Wellington.

Twenty three years on, Ata Rangi is a flourishing vineyard with an outstanding international reputation for Pinot Noir. It is owned and managed by Clive, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison. The family team, each with enviable credentials in their own right, now produces almost 10,000 cases, around half of which is exported to eighteen different countries.
