Moutere Hills Vineyard
Moutere Hills is a truly boutique-size winery situated amongst the picturesque hills near Nelson in the warm and sunny North of New Zealand’s south island.

Our vineyards benefit from the moderating effect of the Tasman Bay to our north and are protected from severe weather by the surrounding Arthur and Richmond ranges. The MH vineyard is also special in that most of our vines have been planted on their own roots, which we believe gives our wines a purer expression of the variety.

The vines are planted on the Moutere clay gravels, which give the wines a lovely fruit density, minerality and fine tannin. The nature of these soils further allows us to, not irrigate our vines at all

The Moutere area is one of New Zealand’s sunniest regions and clear skies allow for very cool nights, which results in an expressive flavour development in the fruit and a solid structure of fruit acid.

This unique combination of soil, climate and vines, together with our meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard as well as in the winery, produces wonderfully textured wines that are not overly fruity, have an elegant minerality and are long-lived.
