In 1979 Ron Smith planted his first vine in Hawke's Bays Dartmoor Valley. In the year 2000 he finally released his first wines under his own label, "Moana Park". Ron sees the formation of his new boutique winery as an exciting opportunity to produce high quality single vineyard wines from his already multi-award winning vineyards. The debut 2000 vintage saw the production of a Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay, a Cabernet Merlot along with straight varietals in a Malbec and a Cabernet Franc.
As a long term grower with a pride in his vines, Ron is keen to produce varietally explosive wines which pay homage to their vineyard parentage rather than their winery manipulation. This has seen a real focus on straight varietal wines. |
