Haythornthwaite Wines
The Haythornthwaite Vineyard is located on the outskirts of the village of Martinborough in the Southeast corner of The North Island of New Zealand.

First plantings were in 1992 and currently just less than 8 acres have been planted. The remaining three acres will be planted later. The first vintage was 1997 with the first wine, a Pinot Noir, released in October 1998.

There are only three varieties planted; Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Gew?rztraminer. Particular care has been taken with the selection of the clones of the varieties to provide the highest possible quality wine, and all the plants are grafted onto Phylloxera resistant rootstocks.

With the exception of Pinot Gris, where only one clone, the old 'Mission' clone has been specifically chosen, several clones have been planted to provide complexity of flavour in the finished wines. There are seven clones of Gew?rztraminer, including 3 new 'Alsace' clones, and three clones of Pinot Noir; the 'Ata Rangi' clone, Pommard, and 10/5. Future plantings will concentrate on the 'Ata Rangi' clone as it has proved to be the most successful on the vineyard, and is the main clone in the world famous Martinborough 'Ata Rangi' Pinot Noir.
