Giesen Wine Estate Canterbury Ltd
The Giesen Wine Estate was established in 1981, and comprises some 75 acres at Burnham, just south of Christchurch. In Marlborough 360 acres are now in production and a winery has been constructed.
The Giesen Wine Estate is a family affair. The three brothers, Theo, Alex and Marcel run the winery that has grown into an export oriented business.
Originally known for its production of prime lamb and wool products, Canterbury is now recognised for it's horticultural diversity, including wine growing. The original vines were planted in Akaroa by French settlers in 1840. A resurgence of interest stems from ongoing research conducted at Canterbury's Lincoln University, initiated in 1973.
We produce crisp, dry Rieslings, a full-bodied Reserve, and luscious, sweet Botrytis style. The Chardonnays are elegant and crisp, and include a complex, multidimensional Reserve. Our Sauvignon Blanc, unoaked, highlights the freshness and intensity of the grape variety
