Wine Description

Winemakers Notes
The Marlborough region is situated at the Northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand and has developed an enviable reputation as a producer of consistently high quality, cool climate table wine. The warm dry daytime climate, combined with cool sea breezes at night has a dramatic influence on the production of exceptional grape flavours. The valley was once a glacial riverbed and the soils are stony with a mix of river silt. The vines were trained to a standard vertical shoot positioning system, which had leaf removal in the fruit zone ensuring maximum penetration of sunlight onto the fruit and free flow of air through the canopy.

The grapes chosen to produce this wine were from the Wairau Valley. The pink coloured fruit was mechanically harvested in perfect condition after a long cool ripening period, immediately pressed to avoid colour pickup and cold settled for 24 hours. The clear juice was racked, inoculated with cultured yeast and fermented in stainless steel tanks at 11 – 13 degrees centigrade. This wine has been bottled early and sealed with Stelvin screw closures to preserve the delicate Pinot Gris varietal characters.
Cellaring
Pinot Gris is ideal for immediate consumption but will develop more mature characters through to 2007.
Food Match
Excellent with Spicy Chicken Cakes with a tropical fruit chutney.
