Gladstone Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Cabernet Franc 2002 |
| Produced By
Gladstone Vineyard |
| Wine Description |
|
This Bordeaux blend show characters true to the style. If youre used to a "big red" you'll find this wine softer, but full of cool climate compexities. |
| Tasting Notes |
|
The ruby wine has spicy leathery characteriestics on the nose. Flavours of ripe berry and cassis, with hints of liquorice and tobacco give a rich and complex taste sensation - an impressive length of flavour. The moderate tannins and alcohol in the wine will give it good ageing potential. |
| Winemakers Notes |
|
This wine is blended from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. All the fruit was grown on our own estate Vineyards. A wetter than normal mid summer resulted in plenty of foliage. This helped ripen the grapes in the long dry autumn to good ripeness. The fruit was picked at brix levels of around 23 to 24. The grapes were fermented in small batches with varying yeasts in open vats and a trial batch of Merlot was fermented in a fermentabag. All the batches were inoculated for malolactic fermentation just after the alcoholic fermentation started. The batches were pressed, free run winewas kept separate from pressings, and the malolactic fermentation was completed in barrels. The wine was aged in mixed age (70% new and one year old) French barrels for 12 months. At blending, all barrels of wine were tasted and assessed to ensure this premium blend was made. |

TiZwine.com Tasting - (TiZwine.com Tasting Panel) RECOMMENDED: Spicy, savoury oak sits behind the blackcurrant and blackberry aromas. It's a little lean on the front palate, but ripe fruit through the middle does its best to make up for it, and leathery notes on the finish form a satisfying conclusion. | |
