About Arataki Honey
Arataki Honey Ltd is one of the largest beekeeping operations in the Southern Hemisphere. We currently own and manage more than 20,000 hives of bees, mostly in the Hawke’s Bay and Bay of Plenty. We produce over 1,000 tonnes of honey per year. Our distinctive Arataki brand is sold throughout the local markets of New Zealand and we export under the Honeyland brand.
Established in 1944 by the late Percy Berry our company remains a family business. It is now managed in two divisions, one in Rotorua and one in Hawke’s Bay. The Hawke’s Bay division is still located at the original site in Arataki Road, Havelock North. It is managed by company directors, Ian Berry and Pam Flack. Around 40 employees are based at Havelock North, working in beekeeping, processing, administration, tourism and retailing.
Along with the well known honey flavours of Clover Blend and Manuka, Arataki Honey covers an extensive range of speciality honey types that are unique to New Zealand. Rewarewa, Tawari and Kamahi are examples of the ten distinctive flavours available. We also produce pollen, propolis and a range of 100% beeswax candles.
At our Arataki Road premises we have our “Arataki Honey Visitors Centre” It was developed in 2005 as a showcase for our company and an education centre for people to learn about honey and bees. The centre is a now a popular Hawke’s Bay tourist attraction welcoming schools, community and interest groups, locals and visitors from all over the world.
