'Cellar Door Initiative hits the road - again'

After the success of the recent events in various wine regions throughout New Zealand, the people behind the Cellar Door Initiative – ‘Future Proofing your Cellar Door’, are hitting the road one more time to deliver their messages to wineries in the Canterbury / Waipara region. Additionally, for this final workshop planned for Wednesday 8 August (subject to minimum numbers) registrations are welcomed from those who missed an earlier workshop - from any region. The group, who call themselves 3IP – three independent professionals – are social media consultant Jamie Roy of Wanaka, brand strategist Belinda Jackson of Marlborough and Auckland-based HR and recruitment specialist, Heather Battersby. The three decided to get together to try and help cellar door businesses after hearing about visitor experiences from friends and family. Jamie explains, “I had some friends who spent a day touring winery cellar doors and their experiences ranged from mediocre to fantastic.” He continues, “The interesting thing is that the cellar door staff who gave a great experience, achieved the most sales with my friends buying several bottles instead of just one.”

Seeing this as an opportunity, 3IP used their combined expertise to write and deliver the first Cellar Door Initiative to over 90 delegates in Marlborough, Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Martinborough and Central Otago . Focusing on areas such as visitor experience, brand strategy, sales and communication, each section included new ideas and explanations of how to use the latest in social media to connect and build relationships with cellar door visitors. In addition there was valuable advice on how to ensure the cellar door reinforces the brand’s overall strategy and unique point of difference.

Participants have been thrilled with what they have learned - Sue Cranswick, Cellar Door Manager, Esk Valley enthused: "A very positive and informative workshop leading to be amongst the best cellar door experiences in the world" while Phyll Paton, Proprietor of Martinborough's Ata Rangi stated, "The three Ata Rangi girls thought the cellar door seminar was fantastic.”
