Tickets now on sale to The Midland’s Hawke's Bay Charity Wine Auction 2008
April 2008

Tickets are expected to be at a premium again for the annual Midland's Hawke's Bay Charity Wine Auction to be held at the Hawke's Bay Opera House on June 1st. The sell out event seats three hundred people and includes a three course luncheon devised by three top Hawke's Bay winery chefs and is partnered with selections of Hawke's Bay wines. The Charity Wine Auction raises funds for Cranford Hospice in Hawke's Bay and over the past seventeen years, has contributed more than 1.5 million dollars to the leading regional palliative care service.

The Auction includes wines from more than thirty wineries and this year will also offer an all expenses paid trip to Californian Wine Country.

Rod MacDonald, Chairman of Hawke’s Bay Winemakers says the Auction offers the chance to bid for some of the most exciting wines of our time. “This is one of the most inspiring wine auctions of its kind in the world and the only one in this country to offer wines from just one region. The wines are often unique to The Auction and are a tremendous example of the depth and quality of Hawke’s Bay wines.”

A highlight of The Auction remains the donated artwork with prices paid for the paintings increasing five fold in the last five years. This year popular Hawke’s Bay artist Martin Popplewell has donated a large work, “Study for we all need a lie down”, depicting a wine glass lying on its side.

Leading auctioneer and Master of Wine Andrew Caillard from Australia’s Langton’s Fine Wine Auctions returns to The Auction with comedian and breakfast show host Willy de Wit acting as Master of Ceremonies.

Prospective bidders, wine and art lovers, will be given the chance to sample the auction lots and view the painting at the equally impressive Pre - Auction Tasting Event, to be held at the Tom McDonald Cellar at Church Road Winery on Friday 30th May.

Tickets to the Pre-Auction Tasting and the Midland’s Hawke’s Bay Charity Wine Auction on June 1st are available by phoning 0800 44 29 46.
