Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting To Be Held In Melbourne 23 &24 JUNE 2008 April 2008 The Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting, a biennial celebration of the quality and diversity of riesling wines, will be held in Melbourne on 23 and 24 June 2008.
Highlight of the 2-day event will be a comparative tasting of over 30 of the world’s most acclaimed rieslings from the 2005 and 2006 vintages selected by a panel headed by the Berlin-based English wine writer and internationally renowned riesling authority Stuart Pigott.
The tasting will be held at Zinc in Federation Square on Monday 22 June 2008 and will be conducted by Stuart Piggot with additional commentary from leading riesling winemakers and critics
A more informal tasting, ‘Riesling Unplugged’ will be held from 5-7pm on Monday 23 June at the Prince Wine Store in South Melbourne. This tasting features current release riesling wines from Australian and overseas winemakers attending the event.
In addition to these tastings a series of workshops, primarily designed for those in the wine retailing or hospitality industries, will be held on Tuesday 24 June.
Stuart Piggot will present an ‘Outer Limits’ workshop featuring an eclectic, multinational selection of wines from winemakers who are pushing the riesling envelope in new, exciting directions. A luncheon workshop led by chef Andrew McConnell from Three One Two restaurant and New Zealand wine judge Bob Campbell MW will explore riesling and food combinations while the often under-rated wines of Alsace will be the subject of a regionally focused workshop “Sensational Alsatians” presented by the dynamic Singapore wine writer Ch’ng Poh Tiong.
The event will conclude with a gourmet riesling dinner at Ezard where the bold flavours of Executive Chef Teage Ezard’s ‘Australian free-style’ cuisine will be matched by a special selection of dry, semi sweet and sweet riesling wines from around the globe.
Announcing details of the 2008 tasting Judi Cullam of Frankland Estate indicated enthusiastic support from Melbourne based riesling aficionados had influenced the choice of venue and mid-year date for the tasting.
“Melbourne is currently the most riesling-appreciative city in Australia and we are delighted to be able to again hold the Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting on the banks of the Yarra,” she said.

Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting
First held in 2000 the Frankland Estate International Riesling Tasting is a biennial celebration of the quality and diversity of the world’s finest Riesling wines. The event is a celebration and not just another wine competition. There are no trophies or medals and no winners (except perhaps all riesling wines) or losers. Instead the tasting and related events offer opportunities to taste, appreciate and learn more about the world’s greatest white wine variety in the company of celebrated winemakers, critics and other riesling enthusiasts.
