Opawa Pinot Noir Launch
April 2008

Meaning “Smokey River” in Maori, OPAWA PINOT NOIR is named after the vineyard in which the Nautilus Winery is situated.

The Opawa River formed the gravel soils that make up the Marlborough Winegrowing heartland which includes the Nautilus Opawa Vineyard, and lead to the ripe, juicy structure of this wine.

Building on Nautilus’ reputation as one of the region’s most respected producers of Pinot Noir, and its specialised Pinot Noir winemaking facility, Opawa meets a demand for a top quality, mid price pinot.

This wine will stand alone under the Opawa label, underscoring Nautilus’ commitment to producing outstanding Marlborough Pinot Noir.

This wine will be sold both domestically and exported to key markets including the US, the UK, Australia and Canada.

Winemaker Clive Jones says “The Opawa Pinot Noir is based on the ripe, juicy fruit we get from our stony soil vineyards. We want to emphasise that vibrancy. It has good weight and structure as well as bright plum and cherry characters and a smooth finish. It is a great wine and clearly differentiated from the other Pinot Noirs that we produce as part of the Nautilus and Twin Islands ranges.”
