Enjoy Good Food, Fine Wines and a Trivia Quiz at Taylors 2008 Gourmet Weekend!
March 2008

South Australian family winery Taylors, has spiced up the menu for the 23rd annual Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend set to take place at the winery in Auburn on Saturday 3 May and Sunday 4 May.

The wine menu will include some brand new vintages from three Taylors ranges; the food will offer a gourmet feast courtesy of Sosta Argentinean Kitchen of Adelaide’s vibrant east end; and the entertainment will commence on Saturday as well as the Sunday, with music and the very first music Gourmet Trivia Quiz, in partnership with RedKite, a support network for families of children with cancer.

Due to popular demand, the wine-writing musical sensation – The Scribblers, led by Greg Duncan Powell will return for the third consecutive year to perform on Sunday 4 May…

The food:

Sosta Argentinean Kitchen will whip up a lunch feast on the Saturday and Sunday from 12.00pm, with a menu to match all varieties of Taylors wines.

Guests will be hard pressed to decide between lamb loin chop, spicy marinated beef skewer and grilled quail or empanadas and marinated chilli prawn skewer. Leave room for dessert – with a delicious Argentinean caramel raisin pudding with vanilla lemon mascarpone.

Espresso coffee is available all day both days, and a special Sosta breakfast spread will be available on Sunday from 8.30am.

The trivia:

Dave Howard from Triple M Adelaide will host the very first RedKite Food and Wine Trivia game to test the general and food/wine knowledge of guests to the winery. Teams of six people can enter for free for the chance to win one of many gourmet prizes available.

To help RedKite raise much needed funds for families of children with cancer, Taylors will donate 5% of wine sales from the whole weekend – so there’s never been a better excuse to enjoy a drop…

Two games of trivia will kick-off from 2.00pm and 3.00pm on Saturday 3 May.

The music:

Keep the Change is one of the most popular bands in South Australia. With 15 years and 1,400 shows under their belt, the band will bring an extensive repertoire of music from the 60’s through to the top-40 current hits. Arguably the best party band in town, guests will be able to bust a groove with Keep the Change on both Saturday and Sunday.

Who are The Scribblers? The Scribblers are the best rock band wine writing can assemble. The cream of Australian wine writing talent led by the great Greg Duncan Powell (Delicious, SMH, co-author Drink Drank Drunk) will join Ken Gargett (Courier Mail, Gourmet Traveller Wine), Ray Jordan (The West Australian) and many more, to entertain the crowd.

The wine:

From the Taylors Estate range, guests can taste the recently released 2007 Riesling and 2007 Gewurztraminer. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is also available, having spent two years maturing for the occasion.

The Taylors premium Jaraman range is a fusion of two exceptional parcels of fruit from icon wine regions in South Australia. The new vintage 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2007 Riesling will make their debut at the 2008 Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend, alongside the 2006 Chardonnay and 2004 Shiraz.

Speaking of debuts, Taylors brand new range introduced in August 2007 – Eighty Acres, will appear for the first time at this event. Winery guests will have the opportunity to sip the new 2006 vintage Eighty Acres Cabernet Shiraz Merlot, as well as the 2005 Shiraz Viognier and 2007 Chardonnay Viognier.

The selection of ten different Taylors wines is sure to impress a wide range of tastes. Wines are available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
