Jacob's Creek awarded Trophy for the Most Successful winery at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition March 2008 Jacob’s Creek has been awarded the top honour, The Wine Society Perpetual Trophy for the Most Successful Winery at the 2008 Sydney International Wine Competition, one of Australia’s most prestigious international wine shows and one of the only shows to use food matching as part of the judging process.
Jacob's Creek received this trophy in recognition of the quality and range of wines produced under the Jacob’s Creek label. A panel of top judges, made up of wine writers, sommeliers and wine consultants tasted their way through 2,000 entries (capped) at this year’s competition, from 457 wineries.
Jacob's Creek Chief Winemaker Philip Laffer said the trophy win is testament to the commitment to high quality wines across the Jacob's Creek portfolio. “We are certainly very proud of the quality of the wine we produce from our core range, reserve range through to our top end Heritage collection and to be awarded this trophy affirms our commitment to these wines,” he said.
Two wines from Jacob's Creek were recognised in the Top 100 list from the competition. The 2005 Jacob's Creek Reserve Shiraz which has already been awarded a host of medals since its release in October last year was acknowledged in the medium bodied red wine class for its rich palate, generous spicy fruit flavours and integrated tannins which matched perfectly with the food selection.
Jacob's Creek's rich history and long association with Riesling was also recognised with both the 2007 Jacob’s Creek Riesling (current vintage 2004 in New Zealand) and 2007 Jacob’s Creek Reserve Riesling awarded Blue Gold medals which rate in the Top 200 wines of the competition. These wines epitomise the elegant style and generous fruit flavours of Rieslings crafted under the Jacob’s Creek name.
In the formidable line up of Chardonnays, Jacob's Creek was also recognised in the top 200 list with the 2005 Jacob’s Creek Reeves Point Chardonnay (current vintage 2004 in New Zealand).
"This competition has recognised not only the quality level we produce across our ranges within the Jacob's Creek portfolio but also our strengths in both white and red winemaking and why Jacob's Creek is so popular with consumers today", Philip said.
