Wine Description
Golden yellow in colour, the nose has aromas of marmalade, honey and apricots. The palate is luscious, sweet and viscous, with stone fruit flavours, all held in balance with natural acidity to finish crisply.
Winemakers Notes
The grapes were hand harvested, and selected on the vines for clean botrytis infection. At the winery the grapes were whole bunch pressed and allowed to sit on skins for 24 hours to extract the rich treacle like juice. The juice was cool fermented in stainless steel with a selected yeast strain to enhance the varietal aroma. After fermentation the wine was racked off gross lees and prepared for bottling.
Viticulture Notes
A single vineyard was chosen for this wine, located on the east side of the Wairau Valley. The vines were spur pruned and harvested in the first week of June.

Good pre vintage weather resulted in higher than average bunch counts, however patchy flowering reduced crop levels in line with average yields. An extended ideal weather pattern in Marlborough enabled the grapes to be picked in the beginning of June with clean botrytis infection, resulting in opulent flavour and balance.
Cellaring
The Shingle Peak Reserve Botrytis Riesling will continue to develop through to 2012.
