Wine Description
The Patriarch is our flagship red wine. With this wine we allow ourselves complete flexibility in order to make the best we can – we are not committed to a particular variety or blend, crop levels are very restricted and it is only produced when we feel we have attained exceptional quality.
Tasting Notes
The dark aromatic melody of aromas form the lifted and generous bouquet. The palate is a rich, brooding and delightful morass of sweet fruit, liquorice and black forest chocolate. The tannins are velvet and coating. Still youthful, the wine is never-the-less very accessible - beautiful drinking now,(2008), and into the future.
Winemakers Notes
The various parcels were hand harvested and vinified separately in small concrete vats with hand plunging. After an extended time on skins the new wines were drained to small oak barriques, (French and American), to mature. The blend was assembled in June 2005 and returned to oak for further ageing. A total of 14 months was spent in barrel. The wine was bottled on the 29th September 2005

Food Match
Ideal with roasted red meats. It makes a good partner for a whole fillet beef, roasted rare. Also perfect with a tasty winter casseroled stew.

A big savoury wine that has good fruit, pleasant oak integration and touches of leather and pepper. As yet the tannins are still quite gripping but this is a wine made to last and it will continue improving.
