Winemakers Notes
Upon harvesting the grapes were transported to Corner 50, Nobilo Wine Group’s vineyard and winery facility in Hawkes Bay. The fruit was crushed and destemmed, before being inoculated with Rhone isolate yeasts, selected for their ability to enhance and stabilize colour, while allowing true varietal expression. Fermentation took place over fourteen days, reaching peak fermentation temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius. The cap was hand plunged every eight hours throughout, promoting colour and tannin extraction from the skins. The wine was then pressed directly to a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barriques. The wine completed malolactic fermentation and matured in oak for thirteen months. Prior to bottling the wine received a light fining and filtration.
Viticulture Notes
This wine blends fruit from two unique Hawkes Bay vineyard sites. Moderately warm conditions throughout the 2006 growing season in Hawkes Bay saw all varieties ripening evenly and ahead of time. Recognising that there was a potentially large crop the vineyard managers spent a considerable amount of time on maximising quality through crop and canopy manipulation. Early harvest with mild conditions delivered great balance, with exceptional fruit characters and optimum ripeness.
