| Tasting Notes |
This wine shows benchmark varietal characteristics, it is dry in style with lovely, peach, honeysuckle and pear aromatics. The palate is extraordinarily balanced with smooth, spicy pear flavours, sweet phenolics and a lush palate. A wine of remarkable intensity. |
| Winemakers Notes |
The grapes for our inaugural Wither Hills Marlborough Pinot Gris come from our own coastal Rarangi vineyard and the hillside Fairbourne Drive vineyard which looks west over the Brancott Valley. These 2 vineyards were kept separate throughout the winemaking process to provide vineyard integrity and also offering the greatest possible blending combinations. The fruit was hand picked, chilled overnight, gently pressed, ambiently settled, racked and cool fermented in stainless steel tanks, with selected yeast strains to enhance the unique aromatics and flavours. A small amount was allowed to ferment naturally in old French oak barriques to provide complexity, texture and mouthfeel. After fermentation the wines remained on light yeast lees to enhance palate feel and structure. The wines were then racked, blended, filtered and bottled to retain and capture the delicate aromatics and subtle palate weight of Marlborough Pinot Gris. |
| Viticulture Notes |
The season set off in a cool start with frosts through the early part of spring. Cool and wet conditions were experienced over the flowering, December being the coolest in 50 years. Fortunately, due to bunch counts being high it meant ideal yields were still achieved. Weather conditions after Christmas returned to the traditional Marlborough 'Indian Summer' which was hot and dry during the day and cool at night leading to an excellent harvest with superb fruit quality. |

| This is Wither Hills' first Pinot Gris offering and very promising it is. The nose has good stonefruit and lime nuances which give way to soft, ripe, peach flavours that are layered and well balanced with the acidity. NB. This wine is ONLY available at the Wither Hills Cellar Door |
