| Wine Description |
|
This complex Pinot Gris exhibits lifted orange blossom and honeysuckle aromas. The palate is finely textured and mouth filling with hints of citrus and spiced apple. Best enjoyed young, however further complexity and richness will be gained with cellaring |
| Winemakers Notes |
|
The fruit was hand harvested over two week period in early April to gain optimum ripeness then whole bunched pressed to different vessels. Cultured yeast strains and cool fermentation techniques in tank were used to preserve natural fruit flavours. Some residual sugar was left in the wine to provide balance in the final blend. Post fermentation, the wine was left on yeast lees with occasional lees stirring to help build the desired texture and richness on the palate. This wine was then blended and bottled early to capture the pure fruit flavours of the vineyard. |
| Viticulture Notes |
Marlborough experienced a drier than average season, producing some of the most intense flavours ever. A late frost in November and a cool December lead to lower than average yields. However a long warm summer produced full flavour ripeness which allowed us to capture the ideal vineyard flavours of our Pinot Gris.
This Pinot Gris is a blend of clones from the Diamond vineyard in the southern region of the Wairau valley. The vines are planted on north facing rows in the warmest area of Marlborough. The temperate microclimate, coupled with the region’s free-draining soils, provide ideal conditions for the ripening of our Pinot Gris fruit.
