| Wine Description |
“The 2007 vintage has provided us with our signature style of Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc. The warm and dry climatic conditions over summer and autumn gave the winemaking team ideal growing and harvest conditions to yield the flavour potential of the fruit. The warm days and cool nights have accentuated grapefruit and passionfruit aromas, and the dry climatic conditions has added an extra depth of mineral complexity to the wine. This in combination with fresh fruit flavours and clean acidity had produced one of the great aperitifs”

The wine is light straw in colour with green highlights. This wine displays vibrant fruit intensity. Ripe grapefruit, citrus and passionfruit fruit flavours dominate, and to layer over this is an added mineral complexity. The palate shows balance, both ripe flavours and fresh acidity. |
| Winemakers Notes |
The grapes were harvested from mid March to late April 2007. Most of the grapes harvested were crushed to bag presses or “tippy tanks”. The juice was drained and pressed from the skins to minimise excessive phenolic extraction. The juice was then settled to remove solids, and then bright clear juice is racked to ferment. The juice was then fermented slowly using selected aromatic yeast at cool temperatures to retain the very distinctive regional and varietal characters.

| Viticulture Notes |
The unique terrior where the “Stoneleigh Vineyards” lie defines the wines independent qualities. Located on the northern side of the Wairau Valley in close proximity to Marlborough’s main river (the “Wairau”), the vignerons have located the vineyards on shallow, rock and gravel exposed soils. These soils, low in nutrient and water holding capacity, coupled with the terrior’s warmer climate and high rainfall add up the produce a wine with its own unique “place”.
The winemaker has harvested the fruit at peak intensity looking for both fresh and ripe fruit properties, then using minimal winemaking intervention; the wine is able to express its own unique quality.

Marlborough Growing Season:
With good bud initiation from the previous year coupled with an excellent bud burst and resulting high cluster counts on the vines Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc crops were expected to be higher than average. Unfortunately a cooler wet period which encompassed much of Marlborough during the November- December flowering period followed. The consequence of this less than ideal flowering weather was ultimately reduced yields affecting much of the Sauvignon Blanc vineyard area. The benefit of this wetter than average early summer weather was the development of good canopy growth and overall vine health. When this was followed by an exceptionally dry autumn and harvest period, we had all the ingredients of a superb quality vintage.
