Stoneleigh Marlborough Pinot Gris 2007
Produced By Stoneleigh Vineyards Marlborough
Wine Description
True to Stoneleigh’s distinctive style, this classic, flavoursome Pinot Gris captures the essence of Marlborough, New Zealand’s most acclaimed winemaking region. Crafted from ripe, intensely flavoured grapes this full-bodied Pinot Gris is dry in style and beautifully balanced. It has a small amount of residual sugar to give the palate a sense of fullness while the soft, naturally occurring acidity ensures the wine in not overly sweet, leaving the palate lingering with fresh fruit flavours.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale golden straw.
Aromas: This full-bodied Marlborough Pinot Gris displays lifted nashi pear and freshly cut nectarine notes.
Palate: Pears, nectarine, peaches and tropical fruit flavours dominate.
Winemakers Notes
Fermentation notes: To retain maximum flavour, the grapes were handled as little as possible and the juice underwent a cool, slow fermentation using yeasts which complement and enhance the fruit characters. Both free run and press fractions were blended to give a balance of freshness and richness. Following fermentation the wine was left on yeast lees for 8 weeks before receiving a light fining and filtering prior to bottling.
Maturation notes: This wine was bottled young to capture the fresh aromatics of Marlborough Pinot Gris.
Other comments: Marlborough is New Zealand’s most acclaimed winemaking region. With its unique combination of infertile and free-draining, stony soils, high annual sunshine hours and a crisp coastal climate, Marlborough has a world-renowned terroir and microclimate.
Viticulture Notes
Fruit for this wine was grown on a mixture of stone-covered, free-draining alluvial soils and richer fertile silts. Regular tasting of the fruit ensured that harvest occurred when the fruit had maximum flavour intensity.
Cellaring
wine is best enjoyed young and exuberant, or may be cellared over the next two years.
Food Match
Serve slightly chilled on its own or with white meat and seafood dishes accompanied by a fruit salsa.
