Lawson's Dry Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2007 |
| Produced By
Lawson's Dry Hills Wines Ltd |
| Wine Description |
|
Intense passionfruit characters are complemented by a rich array of flavours from tropical and citrus fruits through to appealing herbal notes. A portion of the blend was fermentd in French oak barriques which has added depth and texture to the palate. As always, the hallmark of our Sauvignon Blanc is complexity, concentration and a long fresh finish. |
| Tasting Notes |
|
Unmistakably Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with trademark passionfruit and gooseberry aromas, red capsicum(bellpepper), lime and melon notes. The palate features a strong lemon/lime acidity that provides wonderful crispness and fine minerality on the finish. The flavours are concentrated and cover the full spectrum from subtle grassiness and grapefruit through to tropical and passionfruit. |
| Winemakers Notes |
|
93.5% of the blend was cool fermented in stainless steel tanks with yeasts selected specifically to enhance the passionfruit, gooseberry and pungent aromas. The knowledge gained over many vintages allows us to maximise the potential of each vineyard by using specially selected yeasts and fermentation protocols for each parcel of fruit. Barrel fermentation of the remaining 6.5% in older French oak barriques has increased the palate weight and complexity. Blending is a crucial stage in the crafting of this wine and we ensure that the finished wine has a broad flavour profile. Each vintage only the highest performing of our vineyards make it into the final blend of this wine. |
| Viticulture Notes |
|
Sourced from six different sites in Marlborough's Wairau, Waihopai and Omaka valleys, encompassing a diverse range of soils, aspects microclimates which provide us with parcels of grapes that have a full range of flavours and characters. The 2006/2007 growing season started with cool weather over flowering that limited vineyard yields. The summer progressed in fairly typical Marlborough fashion with fine dry weather that lead into the all important sunny, warm drys - cool nights patterns over the harvest period. |

| This wine has a real freshness to it with passionfruit, capsicum and herbal aromas and ripe citrus fruit flavours. The acidity is firm and integrated thus creating a very well balanced wine. |

F & B Magazine - (Peter Saunders) Running fresh and alive. A sound, tasty food wine with plenty of time ahead. Aromatic styles have always been a Lawson's specialty and this label has a long history of success. | NZ Herald - (Jo Burzynska) Marlborough has an international reputation for producing pungent vibrantly fruited Sauvignon Blancs. This wonderfully zingy example surfs through its waves of herbs, cut grass, mineral and melon on a crisp grapefruit acidity. | The Marlborough Express - (Deborah Walton / Peter Morice) Unscrew the lid and enjoy the pungency. This wine delivers plenty of those lovely classic Marlborough aromas; it's grassy, savoury, sweaty, laced with gooseberries and a dash of citrus. Words like bold, crisp, fresh and pungent best describe this wine's nose. This Sauvignon Blanc has lovely mouthfeel, there's a slight creaminess to it's texture and the tingy acids travel right across the palate - start to finish. crisp, intense and refreshing the taste currants, grass and gooseberries dominates the front of the palate, eventually teaming up with a dash of sweetness towards the finish. That gentle creamy sensation really makes its presence fely at the finish whilst the aftertaste is laced with lime citrus and remains cleansing. Even tough it's a baby; this powerful wine is lovely and is sure to improve even more with a little time in the bottle. | Winestate Magazine - (Tasting Panel) FOUR AND A HALF STARS - EQUAL TOP IN CATEGORY.
Full bodied, ripe style with passionfruit flavours showing concentration. Highly satisfying wine. | Winestate Magazine - (Tasting Panel) A big, soft, luscious style - excellent summer drinking. Complex, pungent aromas and layers of intense sweet fruit flavours with a zesty backbone. | www.sommnet.com - (Keith Stewart) Classy wine, already looking like one of the best 2007 Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs.
Mid palate is cool and fruit lined, without losing an edge of ebullience. Hints of nettle-like herbs at the finish, but mostly the flavours are pure fruit, clean and effortless. Lingering finish adds a hint of citrus - Classy. | |
