The Matua Valley Regional Series are quality wines that are fruit driven and approachable appealing to
consumption across all occasions. Varietals in this range include Sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, Pinot Noir, Merlot Cabernet, Merlot and Late Harvest Muscat.
Winemakers Notes
Hints of subtle oak and sweet berry fruits make for a pleasant nose. The palate finds a rich and concentrated Merlot style that is smooth with subtle tannins.
Viticulture Notes
The Hawkes Bay region is recognized as the warmest region in New Zealand, and as a producer of premium quality wine. The fruit used to produce this Hawkes Bay Merlot was taken off several different vineyards to create a wine that is representative of the region from which it is sourced.

Individual vineyards were machine harvested separately, and fermented on skins using a variety of selected yeast strains and fermentation vessels to create complexity in the final blend. Seasoned French oak and stainless steel tanks were used to complete the secondary malolactic fermentation and also for maturation. These vessels were selected to complement the wine style without dominating the fruit characters.
Cellaring
This wine can be consumed now to enjoy its youthful fruit characters, but will develop with further cellaring through to 2009.
