| Produced By

| Wine Description |
|
Off-dry and full bodied in style, showing classical Pinot Gris varietal characters. |
| Tasting Notes |
|
Off-dry and full bodied in style this wine shows classical Pinot Gris varietal character. Pear, baked apple crumble and clove aromas are complimented by poached pear, quince and ginger flavours. The oak influence is subtle adding spice and sweet vanilla notes. The palate shows lovely weight with a big round mouthfeel and a long spicy finish. |
| Winemakers Notes |
|
80% of the blend was cool fermented in stainless steel with a specially selected yeast strain chosen to enhance the mouthfeel and aromatic profile of the wine. Barrel fermentation in older French oak barrique with wild yeast followed by partial malolactic fermentation was used for the remaining 20% of the blend. This portion is rich, round and provides a touch of sweetness to the blend as a whole. The tank fermented portion was lees stirred three times a week over a two month period to enhance the wine's texture. |
| Viticulture Notes |
|
The Pinot Gris grapes for this wine were sourced predominantly from the Barnsley vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, the balance coming from our own Chaytors road vineyard. The cool weather through March meant slow ripening for the Pinot Gris, this allowed for wonderful flavour development. |

Cuisine Magazine - (Tasting Panel) FOUR STARS... | Decanter - (Tasting Panel) THREE STARS.. | Otago Daily Times - (Charmian Smith) Lawson's Dry Hills Pinot Gris 2006 is an intense wine with texture and complexity, a little barrel fermentation, hints of apples, toffee and nuts, a firm, slightly hot finish. | The Press (Christchurch) - (Graham Stringer) It was all planned out. Taste over two nights, first with barbecued fish and fresh herb relish. then chilli lime chicken. The fly in the ointment was I made a pig of myself on day one. This wone wine was such easy drinking - with its seductive flavours spiced pears and apples, a hint of peach, its mouthfilling, slightly oily texture and a spicy zing in its tail - that it didn't make day two. A good pinot gris is a delight to drink, and this one was delightful. | Vintage Direct (AUS) - (Tasting Panel) A big Pinot Grig modelled on the best of Alsace. Bright straw colour with pale straw hue, very deeply coloured for such a young Pinot Gris. Strong varietal nose with ripe pear top notes, followed by musk and a hint of ripe mandarin. The palate is generous, full bodied and totally mouthfilling. Flavours of ripe pear, lychee, musk and ripe mandarin fill every corner of the palate. Spicy back palate. Cellar 2-3 years. | Wine Spectator - (Tasting Panel) POINTS 90 / 100. | WineNZ - (Tasting Panel) OUTSTANDING BEST VALUE WINE....We all liked this Lawson's Dry Hills Pinot Gris. From its intense melon skin, lychee and spice aromas right through to its lovely defined fruit that follows seamlessly onto the palate in waves of melon and citrus. It has that slight textural grip typifies good Pinor Gris and the sweetness has been well controlled. Very well balanced wine and very long. THIS REALLY IS EXCELLENT. | Winestate Magazine - (Tasting Panel) 'It's all here!' enthused one judge. Partly barrel fermented style, fresh and vibrant, with a musky, perfumed bouquet, mouthfilling body and slightly oily mouthfeel. Strong peach, pear and spice flavours, showing excellent varietal character and harmony...FIVE STARS. | |
