|
A bright crimson body with youthful pink rim. Lifted, fresh and lively, offering an array of ripe summer berries and dark spices, with no obvious oak to distract from the brightly expressive fruit characters. A lovely balance of summer berries and light spices with soft tannins giving just enough structure. |

Penfolds Rawson's Retreat wines present classic single varietal and varietal blends in an approachable, fresh-flavoured style for early enjoyment. Drawing on Penfolds' extensive vineyard resources, the wines offer a first-rate quality and value guarantee, presenting the drinker with an affordable taste of everyday Australian wine at its best. The name Rawson's Retreat is an informal reference to the stone cottage built in 1845 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold at the famous Magill vineyard in Adelaide, where he, with wife Mary and daughter Georgina, had settled the year before and were to establish the Penfolds winery which still operates today. The 2003 growing season in southern Australia was generally regarded as warm, starting with a dry winter and warm, clear spring. This was followed by some episodes of heat through the summer, whilst cooler weather towards the end of the season relieved the vines in the run up to vintage. |
