Anchorage Classic Riesling
A proper honeysuckle and petrol nose promises much and the palate certainly delivers with sweet, ripe, juicy, tropical shining through. The wine also has good balance, richness and excellent length. Great price too! More

Peter Yealands Pinot Gris
This is Yealands entry level label and whilst this is not an overly complicated wine it is extremely well made and thus delicious. There are lifted floral aromas and lovely fruit weight in the palate with fresh, vibrant acidity and, for once in Pinot Gris, restrained alcohol. More

Mud House Hawkes Bay Merlot
Overall the best Merlot in the tasting. This wine has distinct forest floor aromas that succumb to lovely sweet fruit in the palate. The finish is dry and really persistent. Enjoy. More

Gravitas Sauvignon Blanc
Asparagus nuances are prevalent on the nose whilst the palate delivers savoury capsicum with an excellent and balanced acid backbone. This wine has developed well and is good with food too. More

Hihi Semillon
We do not usually award 'Top Tips' to four star wines but there is not much semillon about and this is a very fine example and deserves to be applauded. There is delicious lemony freshness here with an oily texture and super concentration and length. Try it - so will not be disappointed. More

Salvare Merlot Rose
This rose has an absolutely fantastic colour. The nose is one rich berries and confectionary. Its flavours are clean, soft with good berry freshness combined with a decent acidity. Good value. More

Hawkshead Pinot Gris
Wow - a huge wine. Green apple and quince aromas do not really prepare you for the concentrated green apple almost confectionary flavours that follow. The acidity is firm and zingy and this is definitely a wine of great potential. Put some in the cellar. More

12,000 Miles Pinot Noir
Given its price, this was perhaps surprisingly THE Pinot of the tasting. Its distinctive feature was its silky quality which combines beautifully with its ripe fruit and plummy savoury flavours. It is pure, ripe and has a wonderful finish. More

Pegasus Bay Main Divide Riesling
Another tremendous Riesling from Pegasus Bay and this one is even under $20. Petrol and turkish delight aromas abound as do the tropical and apricot flavours. The classic spritz is also present and all wrapped up in a seamless acidity. Tangy persistent finish. More

Yealands Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Stone fruit, minerals and herbs on the nose and blackcurrants, nettles and citrus in the palate. The result is a big wine with strong acidity, weight and length. This sauvignon is going to last and improve. Put some in the cellar. More
