Waimea Barrel Selection Pinot Noir
The top rated Pinot in this tasting with one judge giving it her highest ever rating! The wine has wonderful dense and peppery aromas. The flavours are intensely ripe and juicy with good complexity and excellent fuit/oak integration. The finish just goes on and on. And all for $23.90 - hurry! More

Saint Clair Pioneer Block 11 Cell Block Chardonnay
Hazelnuts and toasted oak come through on the nose but in the palate the bold, rich fruit flavours of peaches and melons take over. The texture is silky and the oak seamlessly integrated. Put it all together and you have a high class wine. More

Yealands Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Stone fruit, minerals and herbs on the nose and blackcurrants, nettles and citrus in the palate. The result is a big wine with strong acidity, weight and length. This sauvignon is going to last and improve. Put some in the cellar. More

Peacock Sky Merlot/Malbec
Peacock Sky is a new label on Waiheke. Their Chardonnay has drawn very favourable comments from the likes of Michael Cooper and John Hawkesby and, for us, this Merlot Malbec blend is even better. In fact it is stunning and was adored by the judges and consumers alike. It has gorgeous aromas of black cherries, fruitcake and nuts. The palate is just as good with plentiful black fruit, vanilla oak and cinnamon notes. The tannins are bold but beautifully integrated and this wine will certainly be long-lived. Great value for Waiheke wine of this standard. More

Invivo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This is the second vintage of Invivo's sauvignon and by a majority verdict it was voted the best sauvignon in the tasting. Intense tropical aromas with herbal undertones succumb to passionfruit and grapefruit flavours and are heightened by the zingy acidity giving the wine weight and length to perfectly compliment it dry, crisp style. Get some. More

Mills Reef Reserve Chardonnay
The golden colour rather suggests the buttery style that is to follow. The fruit characteristics are peach and passionfruit with hints of citrus. The oak is vanilla in style and beautifully integrated thus helping create the creamy, fulsome mouthful. Excellent now and should continue to improve in the coming years. Get some. More

12,000 Miles Pinot Noir
Given its price, this was perhaps surprisingly THE Pinot of the tasting. Its distinctive feature was its silky quality which combines beautifully with its ripe fruit and plummy savoury flavours. It is pure, ripe and has a wonderful finish. More

Cathedral Cove Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This wine had the disadvantage of being the first wine that we tasted and yet it still scored very impressively. It has powerful tropical aromas with peach, gooseberry and capsicum flavours that are entwined with a crisp acidity and excellent mouthfeel. Just sensational value and available in many supermarkets. Pegasus Bay Main Divide Riesling
Another tremendous Riesling from Pegasus Bay and this one is even under $20. Petrol and turkish delight aromas abound as do the tropical and apricot flavours. The classic spritz is also present and all wrapped up in a seamless acidity. Tangy persistent finish. More

Babich Irongate Cabernet Merlot Franc
Opulent nose with dried herb, mint and cassis elements. Plums and chocolate are at the forefront of the palate which is rich in texture and has undercurrents of spice and forest floor. Big, classy wine with huge depth and a silky style. More
