Cathedral Cove Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This wine had the disadvantage of being the first wine that we tasted and yet it still scored very impressively. It has powerful tropical aromas with peach, gooseberry and capsicum flavours that are entwined with a crisp acidity and excellent mouthfeel. Just sensational value and available in many supermarkets. Peacock Sky Merlot/Malbec
Peacock Sky is a new label on Waiheke. Their Chardonnay has drawn very favourable comments from the likes of Michael Cooper and John Hawkesby and, for us, this Merlot Malbec blend is even better. In fact it is stunning and was adored by the judges and consumers alike. It has gorgeous aromas of black cherries, fruitcake and nuts. The palate is just as good with plentiful black fruit, vanilla oak and cinnamon notes. The tannins are bold but beautifully integrated and this wine will certainly be long-lived. Great value for Waiheke wine of this standard. More

Saint Clair Omaka Reserve Pinot Noir
This is Saint Clair's top of the range Pinot Noir and was voted by the judges as the best wine in the tasting. Superbly balanced, it has wonderful cherry and red berry aromas and flavours in a deeply intense and warm style. The tannins are beautifully integrated and the finish everlasting. More

Manu Pinot Noir
There is a lot of oak in this wine BUT it is beautifully balanced by the earthy, almost bacon like, fruit concentration. It has aromas of smoke and peat and a very pleasant sweetness in the palate. The finish is rounded and persistent. Enjoyed by judges and consumers alike. More

Mills Reef Reserve Chardonnay
The golden colour rather suggests the buttery style that is to follow. The fruit characteristics are peach and passionfruit with hints of citrus. The oak is vanilla in style and beautifully integrated thus helping create the creamy, fulsome mouthful. Excellent now and should continue to improve in the coming years. Get some. More

Morton Estate Non Vintage Brut Methode Traditionnelle
Fresh, clean and bright this wine has pleasant bread and yeast aromas combined with good fruit in the palate and excellent length. The fizz is gentle and not overly persistent. More

Hihi Semillon
We do not usually award 'Top Tips' to four star wines but there is not much semillon about and this is a very fine example and deserves to be applauded. There is delicious lemony freshness here with an oily texture and super concentration and length. Try it - so will not be disappointed. More

Waimea Barrel Selection Pinot Noir
The top rated Pinot in this tasting with one judge giving it her highest ever rating! The wine has wonderful dense and peppery aromas. The flavours are intensely ripe and juicy with good complexity and excellent fuit/oak integration. The finish just goes on and on. And all for $23.90 - hurry! More
