Kings Series BASTARD Chardonnay
From the Marisco Vineyards stable and made by Brent Marris this chardonnay went down really well in the consumer tasting where its rich butterscotch style was particularly admired. It also displays ripe peach characteristics with lifted spicy elements and balanced oak. More

Pegasus Bay Main Divide Riesling
Another tremendous Riesling from Pegasus Bay and this one is even under $20. Petrol and turkish delight aromas abound as do the tropical and apricot flavours. The classic spritz is also present and all wrapped up in a seamless acidity. Tangy persistent finish. More

Gravitas Sauvignon Blanc
Asparagus nuances are prevalent on the nose whilst the palate delivers savoury capsicum with an excellent and balanced acid backbone. This wine has developed well and is good with food too. More

Invivo Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
This is the second vintage of Invivo's sauvignon and by a majority verdict it was voted the best sauvignon in the tasting. Intense tropical aromas with herbal undertones succumb to passionfruit and grapefruit flavours and are heightened by the zingy acidity giving the wine weight and length to perfectly compliment it dry, crisp style. Get some. More

Greystone Pinot Gris
Medium in style this is high class Pinot Gris that exhibits the required fruit concentration as well as clean acidity and balanced alcohol. Thus you get ripe melon and peardrop flavours that linger on the finish. Good with food too. More

Peacock Sky Merlot/Malbec
Peacock Sky is a new label on Waiheke. Their Chardonnay has drawn very favourable comments from the likes of Michael Cooper and John Hawkesby and, for us, this Merlot Malbec blend is even better. In fact it is stunning and was adored by the judges and consumers alike. It has gorgeous aromas of black cherries, fruitcake and nuts. The palate is just as good with plentiful black fruit, vanilla oak and cinnamon notes. The tannins are bold but beautifully integrated and this wine will certainly be long-lived. Great value for Waiheke wine of this standard. More

12,000 Miles Pinot Noir
Given its price, this was perhaps surprisingly THE Pinot of the tasting. Its distinctive feature was its silky quality which combines beautifully with its ripe fruit and plummy savoury flavours. It is pure, ripe and has a wonderful finish. More

Spinyback Sauvignon Blanc
Spinyback is essentially the second label of Waimea Estates and has a reputation for providing excellent value for money. This wine is no exception. It has tropical fruit aromas that are carried through to the palate where the fruit is sweet, ripe and juicy and the acidity is well balanced. Very good now and may well improve. More
